Redlands Wildlife Care Network (RWCN)
The Redlands Wildlife Care Network originated in recognition of the long arduous hours and selfless diligence of our local carers. It aims to facilitate the care and rehabilitation of injured or orphaned wildlife to enhance understanding of our local fauna.
The most important aspect of RWCN is the wildlife rescue phone line manned by trained volunteers (ph 3833 4031). This service grew in response to concerns from the local community who have attempted unsuccessfully in the past to find help for an injured animal after making a number of phonecalls.
These volunteers work on a weekly roster and basically perform triage on our wildlife calls by either providing advice on the spot (hopefully alleviating the need for the animal to come into care) or organising for a carer or support volunteer to contact the caller (thus leaving the anxious caller with the cost of only one phone call and a greater sense of satisfaction and accomplishment).
We have formulated a list of available registered carers within the Redlands and also set up a support network with the aim of making the lives of our overtaxed carers a little easier. This support network consists of just about everyone or anyone who can help in any way – from knitting and sewing, donations of materials, cage building, rescue, monitoring surveys, identification, advice, research, temporary housing, release sites and native food supply.
